December 17, 2004 - "This
evening's entertainment will be provided by the Classroom Dragons. We hope you enjoy the show." How touching. "But
where the heck did you come up with THAT name?" That's a long story, better told
face-to-face. Who we are is what you really want to know, right? Here's the
line-up:
Sandman - Harmonica, saxophone, flute, vocals
Jimmy Brink - Drums, tables, bottles, chairs. Oh... and scat
Tommie Chopper - Electric guitar surgeon, vocals, youth
Uncle Kevin - keys, vocals
Ralph Mosby, the "Godson of Soul" - Lead vocals, fashion, and
choreography
B'Mac - Bass, vocals
How do 6 guys from all walks of life come together to create such great music?
Obviously, each of these players has their own story. Again, long stories.
(Click on a band member above to see theirs.) This
is a promo-bio - not a novel. Close your eyes and you hear Stevie Wonder, or Mick Jagger, or B.B. King, or James Brown. Sly, Elvis, Jimi,
Reverend Al. Open your eyes and you may even see one of these guys.
Those possibilities have allowed us to retain a "tangible" sound while
exploiting the full depth of our individual musical talents. The three-chord
progression is a comfortable fit and a fitting backdrop for what has evolved
into a somewhat eclectic sound. If categorization is necessary, then rock 'n'
roll, soul, Motown-soul, jazz, blues and rhythm 'n' blues is essentially what we
do. (I did say it was eclectic.) Some even call it "A Rock 'n' Soul
Review." To be sure, the sound, the songs, and, of course, the passionate,
high-energy stage/floor show have seduced the one-set patrons into
all-nighters...who come back as loyal fans. And no exaggeration, our loyal fans
(a.k.a., Dragonauts) have responded to our original material (written
mostly by Sandman and his son Joshua) with equal, if not more,
enthusiasm.
So there you have it. We are the classroom dragons. Perhaps this short band bio
has not provided an adequate introduction. Then hearing and seeing is what we
recommend. the classroom dragons is, as that
famous sci-fi writer once said, "A journey of sight and sound". So, if you're
still not sure who we are, you have but one choice: Fasten your seat belts. We gonna take you on a trip.
A Classroom Dragons show is like no other. Where else can you find influences from rock, to jazz, to hard rock, to blues and much more including some off the wall music selections you probably wouldn't expect, but will remember fondly. In addition to covering a wide spectrum of artists, the band proudly showcases a few of their own songs each night. There's a little something for everyone...
P.S. Don't forget to give blood, and we'll see you in church.
